MusicMonday #9

Sia was in Lille last Saturday and while I could write a full review of the gig, I’ll focus on the opening act for today. They were unannounced but left quite an impression on everyone present at the show.

The Two are a French acoustic duo who make good use of their voices and the acoustic guitar. Their stripped down sound is touching and refreshing in these times of overlaying madness.

Here’s their first single : I Wanna Be With You Again [iTunes]

MusicMonday #8

Today’s MusicMonday is special. It features a preview song off Kim Boekbinder’s upcoming album Impossible Girl. It’s being funded as we speak so if you’re a music lover and have $5 or more to spare, please do so.
The song is entitled Impossible Girl #4 and is a sweet song with hauntingly wonderful strings.

Here are Kim’s words regarding the album. If you need more information, check her website. If you like what you hear, share the link around.

This is a preview track for my upcoming album, “The Impossible Girl.” The song is called “Impossible Girl #4.”

The recording of the album is being funded by a successful pre-order campaign.

I reached my halfway mark of $10,000 on March 7th, 2010. I need a total of $20,000 to complete the album.

To pre-order: www.theimpossiblegirl.com

Pre-orders start as low as $5, while $20 will get you an advance, limited edition, signed copy.

I’m working with producer, Sean Slade (Radiohead, Dresden Dolls,) and engineer Benny Grotto (Mad Oak Studios.) The sooner I get my funding, the sooner the album comes out.
We are currently working on 20 tracks! The styles are as diverse as my songs have ever been: pretty, strange, playful, sad, dark, haunting, jaunty, and more.

I cannot wait to set this album free.

Today’s #MusicMonday meets Video of the Day (which has been long gone).

Please welcome BionicBabies‘ video for Don’t Think off Are Bears.

It’s obvious the band had fun filming it and it’s contagious. While I really like the song, what stands out for me is the bass. But that’s what I already pointed out in my album review back in the day.

BionicBabies just released a new unplugged EP entitled Naked Bears and you can order it here or here.

Marie, Darling!!Simplest Song In The World

.

I once met Marie at a Dresden Dolls concert. She was actually on stage during the Je Ne Veux Pas Travailler cover, simply being there, smoking. After the gig, she turned into a living statue near the merch table, memorable.

After that, I found out about Katzenjammer Kabarett, about the fact that they’re French and that Marie is actually the singer in the band. She also has some solo material and The Simplest Song In The World is part of that.

Musical saw, acoustic guitar and harmonies, what else do you really need? ♥

Visit Marie, Darling on myspace for more wonderful songs and links to other projects she’s involved in.

Last Friday, I went to see Placebo live for the second time this year. The first was at Main Square Festival and their performance actually disappointed me but I still happened to buy tickets for this fall show. Because I didn’t want to believe Placebo had turned bad (and this last gig proved they’re GREAT) and because Expatriate was opening for them.

Expatriate

I had seen Expatriate play as first band of the day at the same festival Placebo was headlining and I was quite blown away by their music, given it was 3pm, they had the sun staring at them and burning everyone yet they rocked out like everyone was there to see them. So I kept their name in mind and was happy to be able to catch them live on a night set. And I was not disappointed. Expatriate delivers a tight live show full of their melodies, sharp bass lines, heavy drums and fuzzy keyboards topped by Ben King on vocals who’s a very good performer.

So here’s #MusicMonday #5 : Expatriate with Spaces Between (it’s a song for lovers but even though I don’t fall into that category, I still love it)

If you can, catch them live! In the meantime, visit them on myspace, facebook or their official website.

Last but not least, for having met them, I can say : Ben, Damian, Cristo and Dave are adorable!

This week, I have a Regina Spektor song off of her latest release Far for you. It’s not new or anything, just highly addictive. It’s entitled Eet and the rhythm changes throughout the 3 minutes and 51 seconds of the song are very enjoyable and actually caught me back into listening to the song on repeat after months neglecting it. That’s why you should do the same, start now :
