I think I like this version more than the album one. The harmonium + marxophone without the drums work surprisingly well.

Yesterday was New Year’s eve but it’s spring already? This year is passing me by unlike any other before.

Poor light but this is my calendar.

These past 3 months have been quite good, musically speaking. With new albums by Andrew Bird, Antony and the Johnsons, Beirut [double EP but still], Morrissey, LGS, Mansfield.Tya and some promissing upcoming releases from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Metric, Placebo and Bat For Lashes you can’t honestly say there hasn’t been good music around.

Then, you have the gigs. Emiliana Torrini was amazing and I have a feeling every concert I’ll choose to attend this year will be just as special. First one coming up : Kaki King in Cologne followed by Moriarty, LGS and Mansfield.Tya the same week and Loney Dear, Gossip, Andrew Bird, Laura Marling and Bat For Lashes before June. Insane.

(side note : if you live in or near Cologne, Germany and have a couch or soft enough carpet I could crash on next week (Friday night,  March 27th) after Kaki King’s gig, do tell! Please. I don’t snore, don’t sleepwalk nor need any special attention. Driving 3 hours is ok, but at night it can be harsh.
And if you just want to hang out before the concert, have some awkward silent moment [I really am not a big talker! be warned.] or anything, let me know! I’m in Germany only once or twice a year, after all) didn’t happen; family happened.

I’ve been looking forward to Bat For Lashes’ new album and now that there’s a release date and a first song off it, I feel like this second full length will be one of my favourite of 2009 (I may be saying that about every release this year, from what I’ve heard, it’s a good one. I can’t help it).

Here’s Glass, the opening song of Two Suns, out April 6th :

I love the percussions on this one! So once again, is it April yet?

Plus, Bat For Lashes announced a European tour and there’s Lille on the list *happy*.

Le Grand Mix is a nice venue, I especially like the fact that the audience there is always very attentive [To quote Kathleen Hanna's words from the Le Tigre concert a few years back]. The issue with such an attentive audience is that it may appear as slow and not interested in interacting with the opening act. Spleen had quite a hard time getting people to sing along, clap or dance but that doesn’t mean we didn’t enjoy his performance. He was a great opener, actually.

The second Natasha Khan and her 3 accompanying girls entered the stage, something magical happened. It felt like the world as we know it had disappeared and we were in some parallel universe only Natasha has the key to. Lovely. Continue Reading »

Bat For Lashes is the musical project of Natasha Khan, a multi-talented Brit who spent a part of her childhood in Pakistan. It may or may not have been an influence for her present art but Fur And Gold is an experiment, a mixture of all kinds of genres and a use many overlooked instruments.
