Song of the Day : Arcade Fire – We Used To Wait

Honestly, I was quite unimpressed with Neon Bible but The Suburbs makes up for that entirely. Arcade Fire is back and this album is pure musical genius, again.

Out of the sixteen tracks, one has gained the title of “mel will obsess over you for so long she’ll forget all about any other song for weeks“. And here it is : We Used To Wait.

I used to write,
I used to write letters I used to sign my name
I used to sleep at night
Before the flashing lights settled deep in my brain

But by the time we met
By the time we met the times had already changed

So I never wrote a letter
I never took my true heart I never wrote it down
So when the lights cut out
I was lost standing in the wilderness downtown

Now our lives are changing fast
Now our lives are changing fast
Hope that something pure can last
Hope that something pure can last

It seems strange
How we used to wait for letters to arrive
But what’s stranger still
Is how something so small can keep you alive

We used to wait
We used to waste hours just walking around
We used to wait
All those wasted lives in the wilderness downtown

oooo we used to wait
oooo we used to wait
oooo we used to wait
Sometimes it never came
(oooo we used to wait)
Sometimes it never came
(oooo we used to wait)
Still moving through the pain
(oooooo)

I’m gonna write a letter to my true love
I’m gonna sign my name
Like a patient on a table
I wanna walk again gonna move through the pain

Now our lives are changing fast
Now our lives are changing fast
Hope that something pure can last
Hope that something pure can last

oooo we used to wait
oooo we used to wait
oooo we used to wait
Sometimes it never came
(oooo we used to wait)
Sometimes it never came
(oooo we used to wait)
Still moving through the pain
(oooooo) anekatips

we used to wait (x3)

We used to wait for it
We used to wait for it
Now we’re screaming sing the chorus again
We used to wait for it
We used to wait for it
Now we’re screaming sing the chorus again

I used to wait for it
I used to wait for it
Hear my voice screaming sing the chorus again

Wait for it (x3)

Song of the Day : Kayla Oberlin – WKAP

It’s been months since I last stumbled upon a song I would instantly love and feel the urge to listen to on repeat but this weekend sees the return of this strange habit.

For the first Song of the Day of 2010, let me introduce you to Kayla Oberlin and her wonderful ukulele accompanying on a sweet story-telling surrounding the news of Amanda Palmer’s death simply entitled WKAP (Who Killed Amanda Palmer? is Amanda Palmer’s latest release).

I haven’t been curious enough to try and decifer the bridge part yet, mysteries are good too.

Song of the Day : Florence and the Machine – Last Xmas

December 24th. The year flew by without me noticing. Since today’s Xmas eve, here’s a cover of one of the most popular Christmas themed songs – Wham!’s Last Christmas. This is a version by one of my favourite artists/bands of 2009 : Florence and the Machine.

Enjoy the cozy acoustic guitar, keys, harp and voice combo :

Songs of the Day by Krystle Brieger

About a month ago, Krystle Brieger released the first of the three songs she had planned to release before September 19, release day for her new EP, Picture Not Perfect.

The second song was supposed to be revealed mid-August, which is now, but the good news is that it’s not just one song but two! Actually, one was made available a couple of weeks ago and the second a week or so ago. Since I’ve been listening to them non stop, I thought I’d share the petillant electro sounds.

A quick reminder for the lucky ones living around Calgary : the release party for new EP Picture Not Perfect is set for September 19th at Vern’s Tavern. Plus you could win a free remixes/covers album! (if only I lived on the West Coast of the right continent…)

Song of the Day : Emily Wells – Mt. Washington

Emily Wells, violin prodigy and one-woman indie hip hop orchestra (as the latest flyer states) has been part of the soundtrack of my everyday life for some months now and somehow I kept her music secret but I think it’s time to share.

Song Of The Day : Shivaree – Goodnight Moon (live)

This one comes up today because I’m angry at the absurdity of the world and I’d like to wake up from the nightmare today’s been. So, Goodnight Moon, bring in a new day and make it a better one.

Just because.

Send us a blindfold, send us a blade
Tell the survivors help is on the way
I was a blind fool, never complained
All the survivors singing in the rain
I was the one with the world at my feet
Got us a battle, leave it up to me

Find us a trap door, find us a plane
Tell the survivors help is on the way
I was a blind fool, never complained
All the survivors singing in the rain
I was the one with the world at my feet
Got us a battle, leave it up to me

What it is and where it stops nobody knows
You gave me a life I never chose
I wanna leave but the world won’t let me go
Wanna leave but the world won’t let me go

I was the one with the world at my feet
Got us a battle, leave it up to me
Leave it up to me

I wanted to know
What I have done
I wanted to know
It’s bad

I wanted to know
What I have done
I want to know
Right now

maybe this time tomorrow
or it may be today
It is now alright
Now it’s better
Now we’ll know
Now you’ll know what I have done.

I’m Singin’ with you
Singing in silence
Let’s sing into the years, like one
Singing in tune, together
A sound for no one
Let’s sing in tune, but now
It’s home

Let’s sing into the night now
Just sing on for me
Let’s sing into the night, oh

(hopelandic)

You : oooooh ooh ooh ooh
You stand next to me alright
